Moccasin Bend Brewing Company

Moccasin Bend Brewing Company is located in the historic St. Elmo district of Chattanooga, TN.  We’re at the foot of Lookout Mountain just steps away from the world-famous Incline Railway and very near to the great Moccasin Bend of the Tennessee River.

MBBC was started by two brewers whose quest for the perfect beer led them to learn the art of brewing.Chris Hunt and Duncan Guy began their brewing education in the Barley Mob Brewers homebrewing club and continued to search for unique and distinctive ale and lager formulas. They decided to offer their creations to the public through a small batch microbrewery in 2006.  Soon thereafter, award-winning brewer Courtney Tyvand joined the two and presen ted his smoked porter at the brewery’s first beer dinner in October of 2006.

In 2010, Greg Mccourt joined the brewery and Courtney Tyvand and Duncan Guy left to pursue other interest. Chris Hunt remained on as lead brewer and partner. In 2012, longtime volunteer Braden Morris joined the brewery as assistant brewer. With the addition, of three seven barrel fermenters in 2013, MBBC is on track to become a major creative force in chattanooga's craft beer renaissance.

The brewery is located on the ground floor of a historic building at 4015 Tennessee Avenue in St. Elmo.  The building is constructed of foot-square red oak timbers and 31/2 foot thick walls made of granite stone and mortar.  Built in 1941 as a packaging factory for K-Rations for WWII, Chris and Greg  occasionally find artifacts from that era in the building walls and ceiling. 

Visitors to the brewery will be greeted by Max and Pending, our two brewery dogs. Often, Chris's wife, Sandy will be taking care of the tasting room, while Chris's teenage son Chandler, will be gaming in the office. Chris's younger son Chad, can often be discovered sneaking soft drinks from the cooler or chasing brew dog Max. Visitors to the tasting room, may overhear commentary from partner and owner Greg, as he crunches numbers from last week's receipts. Because we are family run, we are family friendly and offer home made sodas and foosball, board games, and an arcade game for the kids.

MBBC is proud to offer specialty ales and lagers in kegs of various sizes.  Our tasting room is an intergral part  of the brewery and samples of our beers can be tasted and tested on premises.  We often host music on saturday nights, and a Celtic music circle on sunday afternoons.
